“Perfection is not attainable but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence”.
-Vince Lombardi
The cultural extravaganza of St. Joseph’s College, Allahabad – Josephest continued on day 2 with the same unabated fervour. The programme commenced with a Reading of the Holy Bible by Mrs. L.Gaffiney and a special prayer by Mrs. C. Wesley, followed by a melodious prayer song and the College Anthem by the College Choir.
The first event and unarguably one of the most innovative ones too, of the day was: “ Sell it to win it”. The audience were left in splits at the ready wit and the fertile imagination of the participating teams who did full justice to the topic given the day before, thus proving themselves to be effective salespersons.
Not everyone has a superb presence of mind and can vie with others, to think on their feet. Needless to say, the next event was one of the most entertaining events of the day, that is, the English J.A.M. (Just a Minute) hosted by the incomparable J.A.M. Master Mr. Shyamal Narain.
The subsequent Qawwali competition enchanted the audience, what with evergreen Sufi songs as well as devotional music sung ever so melodiously by all the participating teams.
Next, the Association of Luminaries enlightened the audience about the rampant child abuse all over the world through its eye-opening power point presentation. They also highlighted the ramifications of child abuse, making all aware of its long term ill-effects.
The following event, the Hindi Debate Competition made the whole audience ponder over the carefully chosen topic: ‘Are today’s parents losing touch with their children?’ The audience’s expectations were wholly complied with, as the participants presented a lively show of splendid oratorical and rebuttal skills.
The spectators of Josephest 2018 were completely awestruck by the last but certainly not the least programme for the day, that is, the Inter School Group Dance Competition. It was quite enthralling to see the young Michael Jacksons and Remo D’Souzas of the participating schools dancing with full fervour, thereby proving their talents and skills in dancing. One of the teams bewitched one and all in the audience with their flawless and definitely historic performance with their skilful use of fluorescent clothes and props.
After the Chief Guest, Justice Mr. Siddharth Varma was felicitated by the school principal Rev. Fr. Rolfie D’Souza, Mr. Varma addressed the gathering by thanking the school management for organising such a well executed Inter-Institutional fest. He dwelled on how memories of school bring a smile to one’s lips even after decades and how it is important to cultivate friends through one’s school life.
Thereafter winners of each event, both on stage and off stage were awarded medals and certificates by our College Principal Rev. Fr. Rolfie D’Souza, our Vice-Principal Rev. Fr. Joseph Sagayanathan and the Chief Guest Justice Mr. Siddharth Varma. While the Discipline Shield went to St. Thomas Kanpur (Lion), the Overall Championship Trophy went to St. Joseph’s College, Allahabad who were followed by St. Mary’s Convent Inter College, Allahabad and Boy’s High School and College Allahabad, respectively.
The programme concluded with the proposal of the formal Vote of Thanks by the College Captain, Kanha Mishra and the singing of the National Anthem by the entire audience.
