ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE

On 25th July 2026, St. Joseph's College, Prayagraj, played host to Aventia Confluence 2026, an inter-school research paper presentation competition organised by the SJC Science Association. The event brought together eleven teams from six schools across the city, culminating months of rigorous academic effort into a single day of spirited intellectual exchange.

The Research Phase

The journey to the final stage began well before the event itself. The research and writing phase ran from 20th May to 3rd July, during which participating teams from Classes 11 and 12 developed comprehensive research papers of 3,500 to 5,000 words spanning STEM and contemporary social science disciplines. Teams were expected to structure their work with sound methodology, verified sourcing, and original analysis, from introduction through to the future scope of their research. This softcopy phase was itself scrutinised in depth by the judging panel before the shortlisted teams were invited to defend their work on stage.

The Opening Ceremony

The morning began with a formal Participant March, led by Association President Hridyansh, showcasing the eleven competing teams as they took their seats in the auditorium. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, introduced by General Secretary Sarvagya Jaiswal, in which the Principal, the panel of judges, the Association Chairperson, and the President together kindled the flame symbolising the spirit of inquiry. The morning prayer and invocation were led by Shreyas, followed by a prayer song rendered by the school choir under the guidance of music teacher Mr. Saubhagya Nayak.

The gathering was graced by Reverend Father Walter D'Silva, the College Principal; school coordinator Mr. Jyoti Dubey; and Association Chairperson Dr. Sheetal Sebastian. The competition was adjudicated by a distinguished panel of professors from the University of Allahabad: Dr. Gyan Chandra Singh Yadav (Mathematics), Dr. Sarika Yadav (Computer Science), and Dr. Neetu Agrawal (Physics), each felicitated with a sapling by the Principal upon their introduction to the stage — a chain of introductions handled in turn by Joint Secretary Naman Bahuguna, Organising Secretary Ansh Yadav, and General Secretary Sarvagya Jaiswal.

The Presentations

President Hridyansh briefed the participants on the competition format before the rounds began: each team delivered a formal presentation supported by slides, followed by a question-and-answer session in which the judges probed their research in depth. Teams were evaluated on research quality, source authenticity, originality, visual presentation, overall delivery, and their command over their subject during questioning.

Presentations ranged widely across disciplines, with St. Joseph's School, Naini, drawing particular attention for incorporating physical props into their presentation — a creative touch that stood out among the day's proceedings. While the judges deliberated over scores, an exhibition presentation titled "Language-Specified Skill Composition: Replacing Gradient-Based Chaining with Zero-Update Program Synthesis over Frozen Neural Modules" was delivered by President Hridyansh himself.

Following the presentations, the judges addressed the gathering with their feedback, sharing their observations on the quality of research displayed and offering words of encouragement to the young researchers. The Principal, too, addressed the auditorium, commending the participants and reflecting on the College's continued commitment to fostering a spirit of scientific inquiry.

The Results

The results reflected a closely contested field. St. Mary's Convent Inter College emerged with a clean sweep of the top two positions: Samriddhi Jaiswal and Hameezah Ahmad claimed the First Prize, while their schoolmates Riya Agrawal and Shinjini Tripathi secured the Second Prize. The Third Prize went to Ritwik Paul and Rashi Yadav of Bethany Convent School. Two special honours were also awarded: the Best Research Award to Rizwan Rahaman and Abhyas Kesarwani of St. Joseph's College, Prayagraj, and the Best Presentation Award to Shubha Gupta and Gargi Singh of St. Joseph's Girls' College. The judges were felicitated with mementos by the Principal in recognition of their time and discernment throughout the day.

Behind the Scenes

The event was steered from planning to execution by the SJC Science Association's working committee. President Hridyansh anchored the competition rounds, briefed participants on the rules, compered the prize distribution, and delivered the exhibition research presentation. Vice President Yuvansh Garg opened the ceremony, welcomed the dignitaries, and delivered the formal Vote of Thanks at the close of the event. General Secretary Sarvagya Jaiswal introduced the ceremonial lamp-lighting and led part of the judge-introduction chain. Organising Secretary Ansh Yadav compered the judges' feedback segment and the invitation to the Principal's address. Joint Secretary Naman Bahuguna opened the judge-introduction chain with the first adjudicator's welcome.

In his Vote of Thanks, Yuvansh Garg extended the Association's gratitude to Reverend Father Walter D'Silva for his guidance and support, to Mr. Jyoti Dubey for his inputs throughout the planning process, to the panel of judges for their time and expertise, and to Chairperson Dr. Sheetal Sebastian for her steady guidance behind the scenes. He also thanked Mr. Saubhagya Nayak and the school choir for the prayer song, the IT Association — comprising Martand Vikram, Saumya Singh, and Jai Jaiswal — for their technical support throughout the event, and the non-teaching and support staff, particularly Peter and Bernard, whose stage management and backstage efforts through the day and night made the event possible.

Aventia Confluence 2026 closed with the National Anthem, leaving behind a resounding affirmation of the College's growing culture of research and inquiry among its students.
