What do students need most in order to navigate their careers efficiently? Career Counselling which is why, The Commerce Association organised a Career Counselling Seminar on 4th May, 2024 in the Hogan Hall, St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj.
The event kicked off with the host, Joshua Masih, welcoming the Chief guest and the Speaker of this auspicious event, Mr. Kevin Tressler with a loud burst of applause as he was accompanied by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kumar, the Administrator, Mr. A. McGowan, the Chairperson of the Commerce Association, Mr. N. B. Lawrence, and the Staff Coordinator, Mr. Jyoti Dube.
Post the Bible reading by Shreesh Moses and the prayer of the day by Joshua Masih, the guest speaker, Mr. K. Tressler, a very known personality, was introduced by Joshua Masih. Born in Allahabad, Mr. Kevin Tressler, armed with over 30 years of experience in global export, advertisement and building brands in over 64 countries with a 360-degree global experience in this art, he is truly an achiever.
An alumnus of St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, an Economics honours graduate of St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi, Mr. Kevin Tressler completed further studies from IIM Delhi. Sir has worked in Coke, Bombay, after which he worked in J.K. White Cement, Delhi and was then posted in South India at Pepsi wherein he got a double promotion. He uplifted the market of coke at Macan, Saudi Arabia, and even broadened the market of coke in the gulf countries. He is known for ‘teaching China to drink coke’ in an eight-year campaign that culminated at the 2008 Olympic games.
Mr. K. Tressler has worked with well-known brands like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Kinley and has played a huge role in advertising and launching them across India, and to global platforms. Sir has worked with the fabulous actor Chiranjeevi for the Cola advertisement while working in Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd. In fact all, his milestones can be traced to his three principles in life – “Ethics, Health and Education”.
After the glorious and inspiring introduction, the host welcomed the guest speaker Mr. Kevin Tressler to now share his words of wisdom. Nostalgia gripped him hard as he talked about coming to school after nearly four decades and wearing his old school tie with tremendous pride. He showed a clip of his talk with the Mirchi host.
Mr. K. Tressler then proceeded to ask questions to the students on what had they picked from the short video. After hearing the honest and earnest responses from the students, Mr. K. Tressler divided the students into groups, depending upon their desired professions. The students were given some time to discuss, collect their thoughts and to formulate a plan which would help them reach their goals.
The groups were then asked to stand before the teachers and Sir himself to express their thoughts and beliefs and to answer several questions asked to them. The students were allowed to counter question the teachers and to clear out uncertainty within them. Mr. K. Tressler’s thought after hearing the students which was the talk of the event was, “You don’t win silver, you lose gold.”
As the seminar moved towards the end, Mr. Kevin Tressler criticised people for suffering from TMI – ‘Too much information’. Instead, he advised them to keep things simple in order to declutter their lives. He also advised the students to develop the useful habit of keeping a notepad and a pen, ready for use anytime, the occasion arises to do so.
In the end, a memento was presented by Mr. N. B. Lawrence to Mr. K. Tressler. Group photographs of the Guest Speaker with the senior most teachers and the students, gave way to the Vote of Thanks by Vansh Jain, bringing the seminar to its culmination.
