INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY
" Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.”
-Shri Narendra Modi
Which ancient practice finds currency with millions of people for its ability to generate holistic well-being? Which philosophy of life has its ardent followers in both the Oriental and the Occidental populace? Yes, it is Yoga, an amalgam of physical health and spiritual consciousness.
Celebrated with great fanfare on 21st June, 2015 on Rajpath by the now third time incumbent Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi, International Yoga Day has been an annual feature in school celebrations, public parks, community centres and iconic landmarks since then. Naturally, St. Joseph's College, Prayagraj, which is known for promoting the all-round development of its students, observed 21st June, 2024 as International Yoga Day. Guided by the PTI, Mohd. Shabi Rafique along with his team of other physical education teachers, students participated in various Yoga sessions in the college quadrangle. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm of the children to keep alive a tradition, which has stood well the rigours of time.
The Principal, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kumar, exhorted all to remember that Yoga is a journey of the self, to the self, through the self. A cohesive social force, it is an agent of individual and collective weal. The events for the day concluded with group photographs being taken to commemorate the occasion.
