Do you know what it means to push your boundaries and manifest your talents in a span of just two days? Are you ready to witness their relentless excitement, unique creativity, innovation, and camaraderie? To answer the question, St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj has been hosting the Josephest, which is one of the biggest mega-events in the curriculum of St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj. Hosted on the 25th and 26th of October, it saw participation from 11 schools, all determined to win the coveted trophy.
The proceedings of Day-1 commenced with Shresht Sebastian welcoming the Chief Guest, Mr. A. N. Sinha as he was ushered in by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, the Headmaster, Rev. Fr. Melvin Pais, the Additional Administrator Mr. A. McGowan, and the Senior Staff coordinator Mr. Jyoti Dube. He was then florally welcomed by our Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva as a show of respect and gratitude towards him for his august presence. The other distinguished guests were Rev. Fr. Lawrence Fernandes, the Diocesan Educational Officer, Rev. Fr. Joseph Sagaynathan, the Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Naini, Rev. Fr. Gladwin Fernandes the Middle School Administrator of St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj. Mr. Ryan Innes, the Principal of St. John’s Co-ed and Mrs. Betty Matthews, the Vice Principal of St. John’s Co-ed also.
The Chief Guest, Shri A. N. Sinha, is the Inspector General-cum-Principal, Chief Security Commissioner, North Central Railway, Prayagraj. He is a Civil Servant, recruited in 1989 through UPSC. Having done his B.A. and MBA from University of Allahabad and LLB/General from University of Mumbai, Sir has served in various posts across India. He is a recipient of Indian Police Medal, National Award for Outstanding Service by Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Director General/RPF Insignia and has received General Manager’s Award on 3 occasions.
The lighting of the lamp symbolises the illumination of our minds and represents the eternal quest for knowledge. To lead in this sacred act, the honourable Chief Guest, Mr. A. N. Sinha, the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’silva, the Headmaster, Rev. Fr. Melvin Pais, the Additional Administrator Mr. A. McGowan, and the Senior Staff Coordinator, Mr. Jyoti Dube, proceeded for the light the lamp and marking the ceremonial beginning of the event. An all religion prayer and a prayer song created a reverential ambience followed by the College Choir singing the College Anthem.
A special documentary entitled ‘The History of Josephest’, captured the thrilling moments of the past years, prepped the audience for the scintillating opening ceremony. The theme of Josephest 2024, “La Symphonie Solaire”, which means, “Beyond the Stars”, was revealed by Shresht Sebastian, following which the trophy of Josephest 2024 was displayed by Akhil Yadav, the President of the Art Association.
Shresht Sebastian welcomed the participating schools, as the College Captains marched up to the stage. The eleven schools participating in the two-day extravaganza were St. Mary’s Convent, Prayagraj, Girls’ High School, Prayagraj, St. Joseph’s Girls College, Prayagraj, Srinivas Ramanujan Public School, Prayagraj, St. Mary’s School, Mirzapur, St. Joseph’s School, Kaushambi, St. John’s Co-Ed. School, Prayagraj, Bethany Convent School, Prayagraj, Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Prayagraj, St. Joseph’s School, Naini and St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj.
As the College Captains of all the eleven schools assembled on the stage, it was time for the Oath Taking Ceremony. A solemn note was further engendered by the Oath Taking Ceremony, which was led by the College Captain of the host team St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, Mohd. Sultan.
The teams dispersed, preparing the stage for an awe-inspiring dance performance by the students of the Primary Section.
It was then time for the Chief Guest to address the gathering. In his speech, he thanked the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, for inviting him to such an exhilarating event. He appreciated all the schools for participating and congratulated all the participants of various schools for putting up an awesome performance. He explained to the audience, the benefits of participating in such events and their long effects in the future. He advised the students to decide their goals at a young age and manage time properly, working hard to achieve their goals.
The Chief Guest was then presented a memento by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, appreciating the Chief Guest, Mr. A. N. Sinha, for taking out his valuable time to attend the mega-event. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Silva, was also presented a special memento by the Chief Guest, Mr. A. N. Sinha.
English Group Song
The first event of Josephest 2024 was the English Group Song Competition which saw a mesmerising battle of soulful renditions by the participants.

Valorant
Valorant is a popular 5v5 character-based tactical shooter game where players choose from a roster of unique agents, each with its own special abilities, and engage in strategic combat across various maps.

English Debate
One of the most enthralling events where participants engage in a battle of wits, speaking FOR or AGAINST the motion, is the English Debate. It is an event, where in interpretation of facts matters as much as personal opinions as reflected in many a well-articulated constructive and clever interjections.

Spell Bee
Organised for the first time ever in Josephest 2024, the Spell Bee Competition saw the pinnacle of linguistic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and academic rigour. The participants navigated through a wide array of arcane expressions to obscure lexicons, testing their cognitive prowess and linguistic agility.

Mime
A theatrical performance where participants utilise their body movements, gestures, and facial expressions to bring unseen emotions to life and every glance into a captivating scene, the Mime competition promises to enthral the audience with a spectacular display of talent, discipline, and creativity.

Expressions
A combination of acting, singing and dancing where creativity knows no bounds and where emotions come alive in ways words cannot, Expressions is an ingenious symphony of three distinct art forms that reveals the brilliance of improvisation.

Day-1 of Josephest 2024 concluded with the last event of the day being the Band performance. The performances of all the teams left the audience gripping their seats, eagerly awaiting an even better experience, on the second and the final day of Josephest 2024.
