In an increasingly connected world, the field of Mass Communication and Marketing plays a pivotal role in disseminating information and shaping public opinion. Today, everything we consume, whether it’s products or content, is made possible because of the existence of mass communication. Whether it’s your favourite podcast, a blog or a company advertising its products, everything is a result of imparting and exchanging information through mass media.
On the 31st of August, 2024, the Association of Mass Communication organized a seminar on the Future of Mass Communication. The master of the ceremony, Utkarsh, the Vice-President of the Association of Mass Communication extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and Guest speaker of the day, Mr. Ahmar Zaman, as he was escorted to the Auditorium by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D’ Silva, Additional Administrator, Mr. A. McGowan, Senior Staff Coordinator, Mr. Jyoti Dube, the Chairperson of the Association of Mass Communication, Dr. Vishnu Deb and the teacher -in-charge of the English reports, Mrs. Sumona Banerjee. With God all things are possible, and the event started with seeking God’s blessings. The Head Prefect Joshua Benjamin Masih led the gathering with a special prayer followed by a Reading from the Holy Bible. Lighting a lamp symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It's a tradition that transcends time and culture and Mr. Ahmar Zaman, Principal Rev. Fr. Walter D. Silva, Additional Administrator Mr. A. McGowan, Senior Staff Coordinator, Mr. Jyoti Dube and the Chairperson, Dr. Vishnu Deb along with Teacher-in -charge of the English reports, Mrs. Sumona Banerjee were asked to light the Lamp.
As a token of warm regards and gratitude, the Chairperson, Dr. Vishnu Deb presented a beautiful bouquet, a memento and a gift to Mr. Ahmar Zaman while Mrs. Sumona Banerjee presented a lovely bouquet to the Principal, Rev. Fr. Walter D'Silva. Arishh Abraaham Aalam, the President of the Association and Siddharth Deb, the Organizing Secretary of the Association, presented a fantastic bouquet to the Additional Administrator, Mr. A. McGowan and the Senior Staff Coordinator, Mr. J. Dube.
The President of the Association of Mass Communication, Arishh Abraaham Aalam, next, introduced Mr. Ahmar Zaman as a multifaceted talent whose dynamic approach deservedly made him the current Senior Manager in Global Marketing in KNOLSKAPE. An ex-Josephite and proud winner of the Chancellor's Gold medal for excellency in Symbiosis International University, Mr. Ahmar Zaman has engineered conferences all over the world. Having worked with corporate giants like Deloitte and Turner, he has a string of ventures in real estate, hospitality and media management, besides being a theatre aficionado.
In a crisp yet comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, the Organizing Secretary of the Association, Siddharth Deb, made the audience aware of the decade long journey of Mass communication, highlighting it’s immense contribution to the school’s academic journey and the impressive coverage in the local press.
In his subsequent address, Mr. Ahmar Zaman thanked Dr. Vishnu Deb, Mr. Jyoti Dube and Mrs. Sumona Banerjee for inviting him to address his Alma Mater and talked about the vast career options in the field of Mass Communications. Through his insightful PowerPoint Presentation, he engaged with the audience and shared his story, experiences and a look into the future with great candour, offering a glimpse into his transformative journey. He mentioned how mass media requires discipline, concentration, hard work and shared how mass media is more than having a flair for writing and speaking. He threw light on the use of AI and how it is transforming the world and that one should have passion and align one ‘skills to survive and thrive in this competitive field. Not only did he deliver a comprehensive presentation, but he also cleared the doubts and engaged the audience by asking thought-provoking questions, ensuring a thorough understanding of his field.
Post this, the Senior Staff Coordinator, Mr. Jyoti Dube thanked the Guest Speaker, Mr. Ahmar Zaman for his perceptive, profound yet playful presentation, hoping that the students benefitted from his expertise.
Followed by the 'Thought for the Day' by Kunwar Anant, English reporter for the Association, the General Secretary of the Association, Shashwat Singh, delivered the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the management, Mr. Ahmar Zaman, all the teachers of the association, Dr. Vishnu Deb, Mrs. Sumona Banerjee, Mrs. Usha Robinson and Dr. Raghvendra Dwivedi and all his fellow office-bearers. The memorable event came to a dignified close with the National Anthem.
