CISCE REGIONAL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
The CISCE UP Regional Chess Tournament 2025 was successfully conducted at St. Joseph’s College, Prayagraj, from 31st July to 2nd August 2025. The prestigious event was hosted under the able leadership of Principal Rev. Fr. Walter D'Silva, with the enthusiastic support of Sports Coordinator Mr. Mohd. Shabi Rafique and the dedicated team of PTIs —Ms. Poonam Singh
,Lieutenant. Azhar Usmani, Mr. Danny Ekka, Captain A. B. Singh, Mr. Utkarsh sharma, Mr. Harshit Gladwin and Mrs Pratibha Shukla.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from across Uttar Pradesh, with teams arriving from Agra, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Kanpur North, Kanpur South, Lucknow North, Lucknow South, Meerut, and Varanasi. Students competed in boys’andgirls’categoriesacrossthreedivisions:Under-14,Under-17,andUnder-19,demonstratingexceptionaltalent,discipline, and strategic acumen.
The Opening Ceremony was elegantly hosted by Mrs. Joanna Robinson and Mrs. Tereesa Patric, and the tournament was formally inaugurated by the college Principal Rev. Fr. Walter D'Silva.
The Closing Ceremony brought the event to a memorable conclusion, with compering by Ms. Cynthia Paul and Mrs. Aradhna Masih, and was graced by Rev. Fr. Isidore D’Souza. Special recognition was given to the entire tournament team:
Chief Arbiter: Mr. Nand Kishor
Deputy Arbiters: Mr. Ashish Kumar Dwivedi and Mr. Abid Ali
Officials: Mr. Ravi Chopra, Mr. Gaurav Nishad, Mr. Ibrahim Siddiqui, Mr. Sparsh Yadav, and Mr. Dheeraj Saxena Volunteers: The entire Siddiqui family, whose tireless efforts were instrumental in the smooth conduct of the tournament.
The tournament not only celebrated sporting excellence but also highlighted how chess fosters cognitive growth and lifeskills such as strategic thinking, patience, problem-solving, and resilience. It offered students a meaningful platform to engage in intellectual sport while learning the values of focus, sportsmanship, and discipline.
The three-day event stood as a testament to the spirit of competition, community collaboration, and the timeless brilliance of chess ,leaving lasting impressions on all who participated and attended.
