“Knowledge beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure”
Our school has always endeavored for the over-all development of its students. And
the G.K. Association has always done its bit in ensuring the all-round progress
of the students. The G. K. Association, over the year, has been successful in including
among the students a thirst for “out-of-the-textbook” knowledge and has worked efficiently
in enhancing the general awareness of the student so that they do have that ‘extra’
edge to excel in this world of cut-throat competition.
The year started with the installation of the office bearers for the academic year
of 2010-11. Soon after this we started to, make members and fill up our office.
Our membership quickly reached the three-figure mark and we did manage to collect
a significant amount of money. After this, it was time for the implementation of
the funds we had painstakingly collected. We then organized the customary QUIZ for
class 6th, 7th, and 8th.
It was hearting to see the young students turned up in overwhelming number to take
part in the quizzes organized by us.
The G. K. Association has gone from strength to strength over the year and this
year G. K. Association once again brought laurels to the college and has now set
up new standards for other organizations to emulate. Some of its most significant
achievements of the year are given below.
St. Joseph’s College emerged as the winner of the LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS QUIZ for
the 2nd consecutive year. The quiz was conducted by Derek O’ Brien & Associates
and held at BHS. A total of 86 schools with 6 students from each school, participated
in this quiz. The brilliance of Azimuddin and Akshay Chawdhry saw them emerge as
the winners convincingly as they emulated the performance of the previous year’s
winners, Azimuddin and Rohit Patwardhan.
Next on the itinerary was ALFRESCO-2010, the cultural extravaganza held at Boys
High School & College. Here the duo of Azimuddin and Wasimuddin dominated the quiz
from the start and won the quiz ‘hands down’ with a comfortable lead.
Hero Honda ‘YUVA’ was organized in Lucknow comprising not only school and colleges,
but also universities from all over the state of UTTAR PRADESH. Here also the tea
of Azimuddin and Wassimuddin represented the school. They failed to qualify for
the final quiz conducted by Barry O’ Brien because they lost in the penultimate
semifinal round.
All year round, the achievements of the G. K. Association were on the lips of every
Josephite. This was largely possible because of the tireless efforts and unmatched
dedication of my team of fellow office bearers especially Utkarsh Mishra and Prateek
Jaiswal. I would be miserably failing in my duty if I do not thank our chairperson,
Mr. Shivaji Srivastava and Mrs. Divya Raj for their constant guidance and support
throughout the academic year. I hope to see the G. K. Association achieve greater
heights under their charismatic leadership in the year to come.

President
Following the footsteps that our college has undertaken for 125 glorious years to
enlighten the students, GK association this year followed such ideals. General knowledge
is one of the few fields of knowledge that is gained not merely by studying big
fat books but by the presence of mind in everyday life.
One must possess knowledge about things around them rather than focus day and night
on things that are only assumed, for example, how many of us are going to observe
carboxylic acids in our daily routine? Or what use do we have of electromagnetic
waves or complex theorems? We live in a world where presence of mind matters, so
GK becomes essentially a beacon there.
The journey started with the installation of able office bearers who deserve my
thanks. Our office bearers with their continued efforts raised the members to a
116. This year we mainly focused on providing the members more opportunities rather
than spending time on increasing members. After the enrollment of our members within
no time we with the friendly co operation of the literary association and Mrs. A.
Chatterji and under the guidance of Mr. Shivaji Srivastava our chairperson, conducted
a dual crossword and quiz competition for class 6, 7, 8. It was a big success.
Continuing our journey we organized a special quiz for class as 9 and 10. with Ms
J Dcruz as the quiz master, with the help of our vice president Kulpreet Singh Bhatia
and Kartikey Singh. We were able to successfully conduct the event.Azimuddin and
Rohit Patwardhan also did us proud by winning the LIMCA QUIZ held at BHS by bagging
the first prize. Our General Secretary Arpan Chaturvedi and Azimuddin won laurels
for the college by winning the second prize in Alfresco quiz. It was a fruitful
year and I convey my gratitude to our chair persons Mrs. Divya Raj and Mr. S. Srivastava
for guiding and arranging things from time to time. Once again I would like to thank
all our office bearers who helped generously to make the year a successful one.

Talent Speaks, Knowledge Counts
In Today's world, one thing which you can always count upon to uproot obstacles
and pave your way to success, is undoubtedly, knowledge. Indeed, the world is progressing
and it is quite essential to match over pace with it.
Knowledge, with its numerous streams is always waiting to be explored and conquered.
In an attempt to make life a little easy for all Josephites striving towards this
common aim, the General Knowledge Association has been working for the past few
years and has continuously achieved success in its endeavor under the able guidance
of the coordinators Mr. Shivaji Srivastava and Mrs. DivyaRaj.
The academic session of the year 2008-2009 had been quite successful for the GK
Association. Immediately after the Investiture Ceremony, there was a competition
for the membership drive, but as usual, the G.KAssociation emerged the winner.
While other students ate their tiffins and enjoyed, our office-bearers were busy
in increasing the members. After all this pain, our association successfully crossed
the 200 mark. Kartikey Asthana, the treasurer of the association and Anant Bhatia,
the vice-president had made all this possible.
Now it was time for implementing our plans. We started our scenario with the Kabir
Peace Mission Quiz. Out of these 15 boys, 5 from each class 6th, 7th and 8th, were
to appear for the second round. It was noteworthy that Anupam Bajpai of class 12-A
was selected from our college for a national-level GK quiz competition and secured
3rd position.
As a President, I would like to thank our chairperson Mr. Shivaji Srivastava and
Mrs. D. Raj for being there as a constant source of inspiration. I would also like
to thank my entire team for extending their help. And last, but not the least, I
would like to thank all the Josephites who bonded with us in this journey and I
hope they have benefited from it.
I wish the G.K. Association a very good luck and I hope that it will continue to
work towards its goal and scale even greater heights.
Hussain Shauzab Abis President
In this modem world, knowledge is considered to be a resource which ensures development
of the society and nation as a whole.
We believe that knowledge is always waiting to be explored and conquered. Keeping
this thought in mind, the G. K. Association has been working for the past few, years
and has continuously achieved success in its endeavor under the able guidance of
the coordinators Mr. Shivaji Srivastava and Mrs. D. Raj.
The academic session 2007-08 had been quite fruitful and eventful for the association.
The beginning of the session was marked by the installation of the office bearers
for the academic year. Then our office bearers involved themselves in increasing
the membership and within no time, our count reached to 230. After the initial rounds

6 on the 13th of September 07. The prestigious KABIR PEACE MISSION quiz was also
conducted on the 14th of September 07 for class 7. All meritorious students were
awarded.
Music is a media for giving expression to one's passions and feelings. As G.K. Association
believes in the all round development of personality, we the members organized a
music competition called "VOICE OF SJC". Akshay Mathur of class VIII-B was declared
as the "VOICE OF SJC" and ultimately he was also declared as the "VOICE OF Josephest
2007". On the 13th of November a quiz was held at Air Force School, Bamrauli on
the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee function of Air Force where Parushya and Anupam
Bajpai were handpicked to represent the college. A quiz was also organized at the
Allahabad Post Office on the 19th of November, in which Vipul Tiwari and Nitin Nigam
participated from our school, and also won at the State Level.
It was a fruitful year and we Extend our gratitude to our coordinators Mrs. Shivaji
Srivastava and Mrs D. Raj for being there as a continuous source of inspiration.
I would also like to thank our Principal, Vice Principal and to all my team members
for extending their support throughout the year. In the end I would like wish the
G.K. Association all the best for the years to come.

The academic session of the year 20062007 had been quite eventful and fruitful
for the association. The beginning of the session was marked by the installation
of the office bearers for the academic year. Immediately after the investiture ceremony
all the associations got cracking and undertook the most important and uphill task-
the membership drives. Skipping their interval meals, our office bearers involved
themselves in increasing the membership and within no time our count had crossed
200, much to the efforts of our treasurer Shashank Singhal who made sure that the
G.K membership was the maximum. This time we even managed to earn membership from.
the college section. Then it was time to put our finances to use. G.K. tests were
held for classes 6, 7 and 8 on the 17th and 27th of October and 15th of November
respectively. The prestigious KABIR PEACE MISSION quiz was also conducted on the
20th of September. Thereafter the meritorious students were awarded. A special issue
of the positive today magazine was also distributed among the members of the junior
classes to inspire them for the future.
Mention must be made that for the first time in the history of Josephest, "Cognesentia"
(quiz) was to be held. Saurav Chaturvedi, Md. Asim Shaan and Pragya Bhatt were handpicked
to represent the college. The association also conducted the assembly in which the
students were addressed regarding the importance and significance of knowledge.
As the President I would like to thank our coordinators Mr. Shivaji Srivastava and
Mrs. Raj for being there as a constant source of inspiration. I would also like
to thank my team for extending their support. I would like to thank our Principal
Fr. Louis Mascarenhas and Vice Principal Fr. Bona for helping us with their incomparable
and able guidance. I also thank all Josephites who have been instrumental in conducting
the affairs of the association. In the end I would like to wish the G.K Association
all the best for the years to come. I am sure that it will continue to work towards
its goal and scale even greater heights.

The information and technology through internet and computer, electronic media and
print media has increased the awareness especially among the students around the
world. OFFICE BEARERS

- Chairperson Mr.S. Srivastava
The competition is so much that with the awareness of sweeping changes in science
and technology one must also have deep and thorough knowledge about the gene happenings
around the world.
Charles Darwin had rightly said, "Only the fittest would survive in this modern
competitive world". Our school has always endeavoured for the over all development
of its students. And the G.K. Association has always been an effective helper in
this resolution.
This year also the G.K. Association worked' effectively in enhancing the genera
awareness of the students, with the teacher in charge Mr. S. Srivastava. This year
we organized a written G.K. quiz for classes 6th, 7th and 8th. The quiz was organized
on Saturday, 13th August 2005. Along with the members we had a huge crowd of non-members
who participated in this event. We received, immense support from our in charge
Mr. S. Srivastava. The quiz was a grand success.
After this we again organized G.K. quiz in co- ordination with Literary Association
on 14th November. Kabir Peace Mission sponsored this quiz. This quiz was for Classes
6th, 7th and 8th.y Students participated in it with keen interest. Therefore on
the whole this year also G.K. Association fulfilled its duties. We provided ample
opportunities to the students to bring out their hidden talents.
We hope that G.K. Association will keep on working harder and harder to enhance
the general knowledge of the students in the future.
Yash Srivastava Vice-President
At the Literary Association, we strive for perfection and wish to bring forth hidden
talents of our younger brothers.
The Literary Association plays a very important part in the extra-curricular activities
of the college and this past year, under the able guidance of Mrs. A. Chatterjee,
we enrolled the maximum number of members and organized the maximum number of events,
amongst all the associations of our prestigious college.
Our activities began with the office bearers solemnly taking the oath of office
and resolving to take the Association to greater heights. First we got into the
daunting task of enrolling members, as a result of our efforts, members we enrolled
and funds raised were record breaking.
Then it was the turn to organize the events. We started with a ‘spell-well’ contest
for the students of class 6, where along with the 1st prize, the 2nd was shared
by four students, showing the healthy competitive spirit in our brothers.
It was now a time for bigger things, as we with combined efforts from the G.K. Association
organized a huge Literary cum General Knowledge quiz for classes 7 and 8, which
saw a tumultuous response from the students. As many as 15 students were given certificates
and prizes for their superb efforts.
We ended off the year with a story writing competition for class 6, the title of
the story being ‘The Magic Garden’. The students liked the concept very much. Another
notable event in the past academic year was that the office bearers of the Literary
Association were an integral part of the Announcing Committee at ‘Josephest 2004’,
our inter institutional cultural extravaganza.
I would like to thank our coordinator, Mrs. A. Chatterjee, as without her help any
of the aforesaid milestones would not have been a reality. I am also grateful to
the principal, who always encouraged us and gave his full support in organizing
the events.

Everybody knows that to rule this world you need power. The biggest power of all
is that of knowledge. In this jet-age you need knowledge to keep up with time. The
aim of G.K. Association has been just that.
Our activities during the academic session 2003-04 began like every other year with
the office bearers solemnly taking the oath. The office bearers were:- Siddharth
Misra- President, Ankit Gupta-Vice- President, Abhiuday Parihar- General Secretary,
Abhishek Mishra- Organizing Secretary, Akshay Kumar- Treasurer. We were guided by
our Chair-Person Mr.Shivaji Srivastava. First our office bearers started to make
members & in no time it reached 150.
The first quiz organized by us was an Eco-Quiz for students of classes 6th, 7th
and 8th. It was held on the 2nd of September. Another written quiz was planned for
the members. The Annual ‘MAGGI QUIZ’ was held in the month of October in which the
boys from the Junior Section emerged as the winners.
The ‘BOURNVITA QUIZ CONTEST’ also took place in the first week of December in which
two boys Md. Asim Shaan of 8-B and Pragyabhatt of 7-B brought laurels to the college
by winning the inter-district finals. They are one of the teams representing the
North Zone. They entered into a tie-breaker with B.H.S. but finally came out as
winners.
Next was the turn of our seniors. Siddharth Misra of Class XII-C and Saransh Verma
of Class XII-A represented S.J.C. at the MEGA MIND QUIZ held at Tagore Public School
and emerged triumphant over the other participating schools. These two along with
Gaurav Pandey of Class XI-C participated in a quiz held at United Institute of Management
and came a close second.
Mention must be made that Saransh Verma and Gaurav Pandey were selected from amongst
2500 candidates for the CHINMAYA MISSION QUIZ and brought glory to the college.
I would like to conclude by extending our hearty gratitude towards our Principal
Rev. Fr. K.K. Antony for his never ending help and encouragement towards the students,
Mr.Shivaji Srivastava and Mrs. D.Raj for closely monitoring all the events and their
able guidance all through the year. Thanks to those Josephites who participated
in all the events. We hope and wish that in the years to come this association might
do more and better work.
Siddharth Misra, G.K. President
LTS The youth of today are the future of tomorrow. Young people of every country
are the hope of the nation and of humanity and hence today's youth has to inculcate
within himself such qualities which will help him to beautify his future and become
an agent of transformation.
The LTS Unit of our country helps us to develop such qualities and provides us the
confidence of leadership and teaches us the art of living together. The LTS Unit
of our College under the able guidance of Dr. Mrs. Poona D'Souza, a caring and a
dynamic leader carried out the following assignments for the year 2001 -2002.
This year's assignment was to teach some poor children of age 5 -12 at Sister Sheeba's
Transit Home for the Destitute, Maria Sadan. LTSers with the help of volunteers
were able to complete it. A team of fifteen boys reached Sister Sheeba's Home to
teach those young children. It was a great experience for all of us. We taught for
two months.
The lessons over there were like songs composed of alphabets and numbers, dances
on patriotic songs, plays of moral values, etc. Many of them learnt to write their
names and the names of their friends. We held a small cultural program for the children
to show up their talents and we were really amazed to see the enormous talents and
the enthusiasm of the children. Our respected Principal, Fr. K.K. Antony, Fr. Thomas
Kumar, Mrs. A. Chatterjee and our Guide Dr. (Mrs.)
Poonam D’souza was also there to encourage the children. The boy whom the LTS has
adopted in Meja was also provided with necessary help. This year Dr. Valson Thompu,
a social worker was also with us for two days and he guided us how to help people
in a better way. We are extremely thankful to our respected Principal, Fr. K.K.
Antony and to our Guide, Dr. (Mrs.)
Po on am D'Souza for their able guidance and help which they provided us with from
time to time. We pray to God to enable us to help the needy. May we work for God
and for our country. Shashank Deo, IX-B, Organising Secretary & Vaibhav Abrol. The
LTS Camp at Joulikot (Nainital) The LTS camp this year was set in a lovely place
'Joulikot', a small town near Nainital. Eight boys from SIC attended the camp with
Mrs. Poonam D'Souza and Mr. B. S. Wilson as their guides. The only other people
from Allahabad were the students of St. Mary's Convent.
It was quite an experience as the group that assembled there was fairly large. 69
boys and girls from all parts of U .P. and Uttaranchal were a part of it and thus
the theme of such camps was instantly displayed -living with a feeling of togetherness
and cultivating the spirit of caring and sharing. It was a five day camp which included
everything from prayers to field work.
The Camp was meant to make the LTSers, who attended it, jewels of society "Transformation"
was the key word of the camp. Transforming evil to good and bringing about a total
change for the betterment of human beings. For God and Country we all pledged that
we would be the agents of social transformation.
