Saurab and Snehil did a splendid job at the goalpost. In the finals, SJC crushed
BHS by 1-0.
It was, as expected, a head to head match with the first half ending without a score.
However, the second half saw an excellent pass by 'Amit Tandon to Suvid Kapoor as

CLUB HP FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2006
This year the 1st Club HP Inter School Football Tournament was organized and was
hosted by St. Joseph's College, Allahabad. It was sponsored by Hindustan Petroleum,
and was held from the 10th to 14th August 2006. The ground was given a finishing
touch and our team had the privilege of having coaches like Mr. V Rai, Mr. Manoj
Singh and guidance from Mr.M.S.Kazmi.Six schools, viz., - BHS, TPS, YMCA, BCS, BJS
and SJC took part in this tournament. The tournament started with a prayer by Mr.
Moore and the encouraging words of our Chief Guest SP City Mr. Vijay Singh Meena,
who then declared the tournament open. The inaugural match between YMCA and TPS
ended in a victory for YMCA (4-0). BHS defeated BCS by 2-0. BHS and YMCA qualified
for the Semifinals.
In the Semifinals, SJC defeated YMCA by 2-0 while BHS defeated BJS by 3-1. SJC and
BHS qualified for the final match, a historic clash it was supposed to be. These
teams met on SJC soil after many years. The final match was held on the 14th of
August during school hours with the entire SJC family watching. The intensity was
beyond description as we welcomed the BHS team amongst us. The players changed and
soon the Chief Guest Bishop Isidore Fernandes graced us with his presence. After
the arrival of the Chief Guest the players were introduced and the match kicked
off. It was a neck to neck match, none could dominate. BHS struck the first blow
on SJC after twenty minutes.
Amit Chaudhary scored for them. This could not demoralize us and soon we came to
Half time with BHS leading 1-0. Mr. M.S. 'Kazmi gave us new strategies and with
the inspiring words of our Captain, Nitin Malviya, the SJC team walked the field
once again with firm determination. Roaring support of the school lifted our spirits.
Second Half started, an extraordinary maneuver was set up by SJC, Uddeshya Kumar
received a pass from Nitin Malviya and scored an unstoppable goal from 35 yards
which was rated as the Best Goal of the Tournament. But the BHS captain gave them
the lead again. In a few minutes we were awarded a free kick just outside the BHS
D-area
Uddeshya Kumar kicked the ball and it went through their defense like a bullet and
straight into the goalpost. The score was 2-2. None of the efforts made further
were successful and the match was declared a draw. We went to penalty shootouts
as uncertainty devoured us, filled with thrill we got ready. BHS was leading 3-2
in penalties but Uddeshya equalized for SJC in the last penalty and the match went
into sudden death. Unbeatable goalkeeping by Ankit Parashar kept us in the game.
Shashank Pandey scored the 1st sudden death, now it was in the hands of our goalkeeper
to save the next shoot and win the match for us. The chant of a thousand and even
more students lifted our spirits, failure was not an option-it seemed. Amit Chaudhary
struck the ball for BHS but was not able to score past Ankit who made a magnificient
save that paved the path for the "WINNERS TROPHY". A well deserving victory indeed!!!!!
Throughout the tournament Nitin Malviya, Rishabh Hanvey, Gorkhi, Mayur Hackket,
Shantanu Tripathi and Siddharth Singh performed skillfully. In the Prize distribution
ceremony the Captains of both the teams expressed their feelings. The Bishop congratulated
the winning team and handed the Winners Trophy to the SJC captain. Both the teams
received participation prizes as well. Uddeshya Kumar was adjudged the "Best Player
of the Tournament". Mr. Manoj Singh, Mr. V Rai and Mr. M.S. Kazmi also received
special prizes.
The Josephites lifted the Cup with great joy. This day will always be remembered
in the history of SJC.

It. Joseph's College has always promoted the spirit of sportsmanship. Among many,
football is undoubtedly the most popular sports in the college. It generates excitement
like no other. Over the years, SJC has proved to be a giant in football and this
year was no different. The year began with the commencement of the football camp
during the summer vacation under the watchful eyes and guidance of our games-master
Mr. V. Rai and the helpful hands of football vice captain Nitin Malviya. The response
was excellent as more than a hundred students acquired the skills of this game.
Special care was taken to give them the all important aspects of the game. During
this camp we played several matches against BJS and YMCA, and SJC won most of the
matches. In July inter section football tournament was held in the college and class
11th B and 8th B were! declared as the champions in the senior and junior category
respectively.
In the inter class football tournament, classs 11, under the captaincy of Nitin
malviya was declared the champions where they defeated class XII by a solitary goal
scored by Mayur Hackett. Class 8 was declared as the champions among the juniors.
In the inter house tournament held in the month of September, Blue house was declared
champions while Red house managed to get runners trophy. In a friendly match played
against the Old Boys (NDTV 11), SJC won by three goals.
Another match was played between SJC students and St. Joseph's Seminary where match
ended in a goalless draw. The situation was intense but SJC boys put up a brilliant
fight electrifying the atmosphere and for the first time in recent history of SJC
football, they managed a draw against the seminarians. Special praise was given
to the rock solid defending of Amit Tripathi and Ayush Khetrapal.
SJC boys won some more matches under the able leadership of Ajitesh Singh and Nitin
Malviya. We defeated Boys High School team twice in the friendly matches which were
played in their own grounds. Throughout the season Amit Tripathi, Anubhav Singh,
Harshit Chaturvedi, Nitin Kakkar and Shantanu tripathi impressed everyone with their
skills. In the end we would like to thank our Principal, Vice Principal and our
Games Master Mr V. Rai for their keen interest and encouragement for the game which
helped us to keep the name of the college glorious as always it has been.
Nitin Malviya &
Ajitesh Singh.
FOOTBALL - THE GOLDEN ERA
the recent years football has gained immense popularity. In fact it’s on par with
Cricket. Our college is no exception. With the onset of rainy season the momentum
of football fever gains speed. Football is a game, which generates a lot of excitement
in our college. Whether it is an inter school match, or inter class match or an
inter house match played in our school, it shows a lot of sportsmanship. This year
we began our football season from where we left it last year and the response was
tremendous.
Thanks to the football camp held under the watchful eyes and guidance of our physical
instructor Mr. S. K. Jaswant and Mr. V. Rai and helpful hands of football vice captain
Ayush Khetrapal, held during summer vacations, more than 100 students acquired football
skills. Then in August Inter House Football Tournament was held in which Blue House
was declared the overall champions after a long struggle. In this tournament Ayush
Khetrapal and Goal Keeper Vivek Tripathi (both of Blue house) proved themselves
to be excellent football players. Then for the first time ever we participated in
R.S.O. District Tournament, which was played on a knock out basis.
Here we managed to enter the semifinals where unfortunately we lost by a solitary
goal scored in the dying moments of the game. This match was a big setback for our
college as most of our players suffered serious injuries while playing and in fact
the college football captain Rishab Chaudhary fractured his hand in the game. Overall
our performance was appreciated by everyone. In October we had our Inter Institutional
Football Tournament. The inaugural match was played between S.J.C. Jrs. and B.G.S.
Jrs. In this match the S.J.C. Jrs. out shone the B.G.S. by defeating them by 5 goals.
The final match of this group was played between S.J.C. Jrs. & Bethany Convent School
in which again S.J.C. Jrs. defeated their opponents by 2 goals. But the thrilling
encounters were reserved for the final match of the senior group, which was played
between S.J.C. & B.J.S. Srs. Everyone, was excited & eager to know whether B.J.S.
could take revenge of its previous defeat against S.J.C. by defeating them on their
own ground. But amidst the electrifying atmosphere of the exciting match, S.J.C.
Srs. took an early lead.
Ayush Khetrapal, undoubtedly an asset to our team proved to be Great Wall of China
until some misunderstanding crept within the defenders’ minds, a lapse on our part
because of which the opponents succeeded in invading our defence to score a goal
resulting in a tie breaker. The tiebreaker penalty shoot out doubled the excitement
where our team won in a nail biting finish, thanks to safe hands of our goalkeeper
Vivek Tripathi. Thus under the able leadership and guidance of Rishab Chaudhary
and Ayush Khetrapal the S.J.C. juniors and seniors repeated the history by lifting
the champions shield for the 6th consecutive year. Throughout the season Vivek Tripathi,
Abhishek Prabhakar, Ankit Bhatia, Harshit Chatervedi, Ayush Khetrapal and Milind
Solanki impressed everyone. In the end, we would like to thank our Principal and
Vice Principal for their keen interest, support and inspiration, which made our
endeavors fruitful. Special thanks to Mr. A. K. Ganjoo, Senior Divisional Manger,
Servo and Mr. S. K. Jaswant, Organising Secretary Servo for their support.
Once again another football season passed off peacefully filling our college with
a fragrance of unity, enthusiasm and sportsmanship, leaving us all with fond memories
which will be treasured by us.

This year the interest in football was tremendous, thanks to the summer football

from our college to acquire football skills.
This year we began our football season where we left last year. Our camp started
during summer vacation under the guidance Mr. S.K. Jaswant. To begin with the senior
& junior groups got themselves warmed up by playing few practice matches during
the camp. The results of these matches are:
